For your caregiver.
You are part of the care team. Here is what the day asks of you, and what to watch for once you are home.
Everything we teach the patient at discharge, we teach to you too, because sedation affects memory. Plan to be present for discharge instructions, not just the drive home.
What the day asks of you
- Drive the patient to and from the center
- Stay at the center, or nearby and reachable, for the entire visit
- Be present for discharge instructions
- Stay with the patient for 24 hours after the procedure
Where you wait
You will wait in our reception area. We will update you as the case progresses and let you know if the schedule changes.
What you will be taught at discharge
- Wound and dressing care
- Medication schedule, including pain management and opioid safety
- Activity limits and red-flag symptoms
- The follow-up appointment date and time
- Who to call and when
What to watch for overnight
Review the warning signs on our Recovery at Home & When to Call page with the patient before you leave. If something does not seem right, you are encouraged to call on their behalf.
