Most outpatient procedures go exactly as planned. We still prepare, in detail, for the ones that do not.
Emergency-trained staff and equipment
Clinical staff maintain ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) training, and emergency resuscitation equipment is kept on site and checked on a routine schedule.
Malignant hyperthermia protocol
Malignant hyperthermia is a rare but serious reaction to certain anesthesia medications.
If a higher level of care is needed
If a patient ever needs care beyond what an outpatient setting provides, our team follows established emergency protocols: we call ahead, send your records with you, and a member of our team stays in contact with your family throughout.
Infection prevention
Our infection-prevention program covers hand hygiene, environmental cleaning, and surveillance for surgical-site infections, reviewed as part of our accreditation and quality-improvement program.
Sterile processing
Instruments go through point-of-use cleaning, high-level disinfection, and sterilization, verified against national standards on every cycle.
Wrong-site surgery prevention
- Site marking on the correct body part before you go back for your procedure.
- A formal time-out immediately before the procedure begins, where the team confirms your identity, the procedure, and the site out loud together.
- Medication safety checks at every hand-off between staff.
How patients are selected for the ASC setting
Not every patient or every procedure belongs in an ambulatory surgery center. Your surgeon and our anesthesia team review your health history and the planned procedure to confirm this setting is appropriate for you, rather than a hospital operating room.
